Brian J. McCarthy, A75, A07P, led the Tufts University Alumni Association as president from 2012 to 2014, and has provided committed service to a variety of Alumni Council committees and alumni organizations over the years.
He is currently serving on the Ad Hoc Council Campaign Committee and the Career Services Committee and is active in Tufts Alumni Los Angeles and the Tufts Lawyers Association where he served on the Board of Directors from 2007 to 2009.
He served on the Alumni Council’s Executive Committee from 2010 to 2016. As Alumni Council president, he helped advance the alumni association’s strategic plan through the growth and development of national and international regional chapters and shared interest groups as well as through increased participation by young alumni in leadership roles throughout the association.
He has also served on numerous other boards and committees including the Governance Committee, the Leadership Retreat Planning Committee, alumni association representative to the Administration and Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, and the Entrepreneurial Leadership Advisory Board.
Mr. McCarthy is the managing partner of the Los Angeles office of the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where he specializes in mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance matters. His professional skills were instrumental in assisting Tufts University in its successful 2016 acquisition of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
Sharing his love for Tufts are his wife, Shelley (Bestmann) McCarthy, J75, A07P, who serves on the Board of Advisors of the School of Arts and Sciences; his daughter, Kiley, A07; and his daughter, Bryn (Connecticut College ’11), who is an honorary Jumbo in the McCarthy household.
