Description
You are cordially invited to the Tufts University dinner reception in Shanghai featuring Dr. John P. Barker, Dean of Undergraduate Education, Student Affairs, and Student Services; and Dr. Sheila Bayne, Associate Dean and Director of Tufts Programs Abroad. The deans will share updates from Tufts, particularly touching upon student life and the Tufts Programs Abroad.
Other members of the Tufts delegation will be: Professor Xueping Zhong, Director of the Tufts Chinese Program; Professor Mingquan Wang and Professor Jinyu Li of the Chinese Program; and Ming Zhong, Director of Asia Relations & Development of Tufts University Advancement.
Prior to their visit to Shanghai, the Tufts delegation will be in Hangzhou to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Tufts-in-China Program with our partner Zhejiang University.

More about Dean Barker and Dean Bayne
John P. Barker
Dean of Undergraduate Education, Student Affairs, and Student Services
John Barker joined Tufts University as the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Students in 2012. In this newly reconfigured position, Dr. Barker has overall responsibility for enhancing the undergraduate and graduate student experience in the School of Arts and Sciences and strengthening the integration of university-wide undergraduate and graduate academic and co-curricular initiatives.
Prior to his arrival at Tufts, Dean Barker was assistant provost of undergraduate education at the University of Miami in Florida, with the scope of university-wide responsibilities in the areas of undergraduate research, diversity, academic counseling and advocacy, and academic achievement.
A graduate of the State University of New York Oswego where he majored in political science and history, Dean Barker holds a doctorate in higher education from the University of Rochester.
Sheila Bayne
Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education and Director, Tufts Programs Abroad
Sheila Bayne has been Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education and Director of Tufts Programs Abroad for the past 23 years, and has implemented the expansion of Tufts study-abroad programs to include Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Her previous position was in Brussels, Belgium, where she served for nine years as Executive Director of the Commission for Educational Exchange between the U.S.A., Belgium and Luxembourg (Fulbright Commission).
She holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Comparative Literature from the University of Washington and a doctorate in Romance Philology from the University of Tübingen, Germany. She has taught French literature at the University of Tübingen and at Tufts University and has published in her area of specialization, the literature of seventeenth- century France. She currently serves on the editorial board of "Frontiers: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Study Abroad."
