Itinerary
Day 1 & 2 ~ In Transit/ Vietri Sul Mare
Depart for Naples. Upon our arrival we will transfer to our Hotel Raito in Vietri sul Mare. This evening we will meet for a welcome reception and dinner.
Day 3 ~ Ravello/Amalfi
Our coastal experience begins with a scenic ride to the town of Ravello. Here we will visit the exquisite Villa Rufolo, known for its gardens and unique Arabesque architecture. Afterwards we will continue to Amalfi for a walking tour through the town, admiring its piazza and Duomo di Sant’Andrea.
Later we will board a private boat to Positano, considered the most vertical town in Italy. It boasts pastel-colored houses, terraces, and steep hillside gardens. Our afternoon will be at leisure to explore Positano.
Day 4 ~ Sorrento/Capri
Built atop a coastal cliff, Sorrento has long been heralded by poets for its beauty. Today we have the opportunity to view its vibrant gardens, lively main square, and winding streets. Then we board a hydrofoil for Capri, the enchanted Isle of Dreams, where we will have time for independent exploration.
Day 5 ~ Naples
Today we travel back in time with a visit to the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples. Its collection of artwork and other objects from Herculaneum and Pompeii makes it one of the most important archaeological museums in the world. Following our trip to the museum, we will take a walking tour of the historic center to see the Piazza Plebiscito, Palazzo Reale and San Francesco di Paola.
Day 6-Herculaneum/Pompeii
Today we will have all day to visit Herculaneum and Pompeii and their treasures. Both sites were destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupted in A.D. 79. On that day, the ancient seaside town of Herculaneum was preserved by mudflows, while Pompeii was covered with ash. Pompeii is known for its museum and well-preserved frescoes and mosaics.
Day7 ~ Paestum
Our first destination today is a local farm where mozzarella is produced from the milk of buffalo indigenous to the area. After a tour of the grounds, we will indulge in a tasting of this famous cheese.
Later in the day we will continue to Paestum, which was abandoned in the ninth century, overtaken by forest and forgotten for nearly a millennium. There we will uncover a variety of ruins, including three well-preserved Doric temples, followed by lunch overlooking the temples.
Day 8 ~ Vietri Sul Mare
Today is at leisure in Vietri Sul Mare with this evening reserved for a farewell reception and Dinner.
Day 9 ~ In Transit
