Description
Tufts Alumni Arizona cordially invites you to a special event for our alumni, Tufts parents, family and friends as we welcome special guests Sol Gittleman, Alice and Nathan Gantcher University Professor and former Senior Vice President and Provost of Tufts University and Robyn Gittleman, Director, Experimental College
Join us at the new Camelback Ranch baseball complex as Sol discusses “Teaching the National Pastime: American History and Baseball in the Classroom.” Then watch from the Legends Deck as the Chicago White Sox take on the San Diego Padres in a Cactus League game. Enjoy light snacks and get to know your fellow Tufts alumni in Arizona.
Sol will examine “The National Pastime” both inside and outside the lines, how it was played, and the place of this children’s game in the American psyche. He has been a lifelong fan and sees the game as a metaphor for life in the modern world. "As you watch the evolution of American values in the twentieth century, baseball is a metaphor for almost all the social and political change that went on in the last 100 years," he says. "Integration, American business practices, anti-trust laws, crime, corruption — baseball has every aspect of American life."
