Description
Drew Endy, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Synthetic Biology, Stanford University
Drew Endy, Ph.D.is leading the charge in the field of synthetic biology. His research group at Stanford Bioengineering is working to enable the engineering of genetically encoded memory systems that could have profound impacts on the study and treatment of diseases to non-medical applications of biotechnology such as producing biofuels. The group’s long-term goal as Endy puts it is to “help make biology easy to engineer.” Esquire magazine named Endy one of the 75 most influential people of the 21st century.
Endy has helped found several companies including the iGEM competition – the international Genetically Engineered Machine competition, the synthetic biology (SB#.0) conference series, and the BioBricks Foundation, a non-profit that is working to create open technology platforms supporting the next generation of biotech.
