Description

Tufts Alumni Los Angeles cordially invites you to a special event for our alumni, Tufts parents, family and friends as we welcome special guests Sol Gittleman, Alice and Nathan Gantcher University Professor and former Senior Vice President and Provost of Tufts University and Robyn Gittleman, Director, Experimental College

Join us at Dodgers Stadium and enjoy some “ball park cuisine” (franks, sliders and more) as Sol discusses “Teaching the National Pastime: American History and Baseball in the Classroom.” This reception will be followed by a tour of the stadium, where we will have an opportunity to go out on the field!

Sol will examine “The National Pastime” both inside and outside the lines, how it was played, and the place of this children’s game in the American psyche. He has been a lifelong fan and sees the game as a metaphor for life in the modern world. "As you watch the evolution of American values in the twentieth century, baseball is a metaphor for almost all the social and political change that went on in the last 100 years," he says. "Integration, American business practices, anti-trust laws, crime, corruption — baseball has every aspect of American life."
