Description
The Tufts Asian American Alliance (AAA) and Tufts Asian American Alumni Association, a member of the Tufts University Alumni Association, invite all members of the Tufts community to join us as Chinese-American author Cathy Bao Bean, J64, returns to her alma mater for the first time with her talk, “Living and Laughing By The Chopsticks-Fork Principle.”
According to the charismatic Bao Bean, "With delight and good humor I encourage people to realize and understand (and laugh about!) how we are all at least bi-cultural (by ethnicity, gender, etc.) in a way that shatters stereotypes but explains the generalizations. And I do this through personal stories about ordinary events that raise extraordinary cultural questions, such as:
* Can you fail or succeed simultaneously in two cultures?
* How does one reach consensus in America? in Hong Kong? around the kitchen table?
* How in the world did the “Model Minority” happen?
For more information, please visit Bao Bean's website.
Discussion and student/alumni mixer will follow the event. Light refreshments provided.
