Amidst spectacular scenery and over-nights in historic lodges that are destinations unto themselves, this journey traces the historic paths and natural splendors of the Old West. With an expert Expedition Leader by our side, we will see and learn about the storied sights and monuments of four of our most magnificent national parks, and enjoy the rustic luxury of unique lodging, like Custer Park's State Game Lodge, the Spearfish Canyon Lodge in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and the majestic Old Faithful Inn. Join us and experience the best of the West. A Jackson Hole post-tour extension is also available.

This morning, we travel to Hot Springs to visit the world’s largest mammoth dig site. After a short period, we will stroll along the boardwalk over the dig area and see the paleontology laboratory.  Thereafter, we will continue to the work-in-progress Crazy Horse Memorial. Under construction since 1948, when completed it may become the world’s largest sculpture. The remainder of the day is ours at leisure in Custer State Park.

Here we will watch in awe as Old Faithful erupts to heights of up to 185 feet. Next, we will take a guided walking tour of Fountain Paint Pots Nature Trail to witness all four types of geothermal features found in the world, including bubbling mud pots. Then continue on to Mammoth Hot Springs, where steamy limestone terraces and hot springs overlook the visiting facilities.
