Description
Join us at the Trump International Golf Club as Sol discusses “Teaching the National Pastime: American History and Baseball in the Classroom.” Get a taste of the senior seminar taught by Sol where he examines “The National Pastime” both inside and outside the lines, how it was played, and the place of this children’s game in the American psyche.
Sol Gittleman's talents as a storyteller with a keen eye for historical details were recently illustrated in his book, An Entrepreneurial University: The Transformation of Tufts, 1976–2002. As for baseball, Gittleman has been a lifelong fan and sees the game as a metaphor for life in the modern world. "As you watch the evolution of American values in the 20th century, baseball is a metaphor for almost all the social and political change that went on in the last 100 years," he says. "Integration, American business practices, anti-trust laws, crime, corruption — baseball has every aspect of American life."
