Description
On April 2nd, 2010, Tufts University's Social Justice Arts Initiative (SJAI) will present "Issue as Muse," a performance showcase, non-profit fair, and fund-raiser highlighting social injustices often neglected by popular media. The goals of “Issue as Muse” are threefold:
Local non-profit organizations have been invited to display information on their work in the Boston area during the event reception, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Aidekman Arts Center on the Tufts University Medford campus. The student showcase will begin at 8:00 p.m. in Cohen Auditorium and feature performances inspired by the efforts of the non-profit organizations participating in the fair. All proceeds from ticket sales, the raffle, and the silent auction will be distributed between these organizations.
Participating non-profit organizations cover a range of social justice issues – from human trafficking, to environmental justice, to access to health care – and include Artists for Humanity, Groundwork Somerville, On Your Feet Boston, Somerville Homeless Coalition, Student Immigration Movement, The Family Center, One Family Inc., Emergency Boston, Not For Sale, Boston Ten Point Coalition, and Generation Excel's Do the Write Thing Girls Program.
