Three alumni win big in the Tufts Online Community prize drawing

December 07, 2016

Three alumni have won prizes simply by joining the new Tufts Online Community! The prize drawing was open to all registered community members, and these lucky few have nabbed hundreds of dollars’ worth of gift cards just in time for the holidays.

Dan Hooks, E02, won a $300 Amazon gift card. He joined the Online Community earlier this year to update his information and stay in the loop on local Tufts events. “There are a lot of Jumbos in the area,” says the Oakland, California, resident. “It’s a great way to stay in touch with friends and with Tufts.”

Joseph Tuggle, A03, of Alexandria, Virginia, received a $300 Target gift card. He joined the Online Community this past spring to maintain connections with alumni from his class and serve as an advisor to current students and new graduates, especially in the Washington, D.C., area. “I’d love to serve as a resource if students or recent graduates need career or academic advice,” says Tuggle, who works as a space and nuclear program analyst. “To me, that’s the biggest draw of the Online Community.”

Krista Zillmer, N16, of Somerville, Massachusetts, won a $300 Best Buy gift card. She joined the Online Community to connect with fellow alumni while searching for jobs. “Finding a job is a new stress after you graduate, and I love to use the Online Community to find people who might be in a similar field or already work at an organization I’m interested in,” says Zillmer, who majored in food policy and applied nutrition at the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy.

The new Tufts Online Community launched in January 2016 and is a fast, free, and easy way to stay connected to Tufts and fellow alumni. Members enjoy access to a searchable alumni directory, exclusive library databases, and other useful tools that help them stay in touch with each other and the university.

“It’s about getting connected to the right people at the right time,” Zillmer says, “and the Online Community makes it easy to connect with Tufts graduates in my industry, as well as stay in touch with friends.”
