Statement:

Solutions to the most complex problems facing our world are most likely to be forged from innovative, multidisciplinary collaborations. Tufts University's broad range of schools and areas of excellence provides it with exceptionally rich potential for novel, multidisciplinary collaborations in areas of shared academic interest across all Tufts University schools, campuses, and disciplines. Nowhere is this potential better exemplified than in the life sciences, where Tufts' unparalleled leadership in dental, veterinary, and clinical medicine is complemented by world-class educators and researchers in nutrition, biomedical sciences, engineering, business, and multicultural and international affairs. Further expansion of similar collaborations throughout the university will result in unique opportunities for Tufts students at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Tufts' focus on active citizenship provides a wonderful platform for applying new research findings in real-world settings, ensuring that Tufts will continue to serve as an incubator for students, faculty, and alumni who want to create meaningful change in the world.

Tufts University has been greatly strengthened by President Bacow's decade of leadership. Now, as we face an exciting new chapter in our history, we should keep in mind that each branch of the university can be strengthened by a robust and expanding network of connections among all schools and campuses. I would look forward to the opportunity to serve and strengthen Tufts as it shapes our next generation of world leaders.
